What is LED Light?

LED stands for light emitting diode. Have you ever seen those small red lights that serve as indicators for all kinds of different things?  You might find them in remote controls, cd players, on your car air conditioning controls to show you which one is engaged...led lights are everywhere.

Basically, they are tiny little lights that emit a lot of light for their own size. Older LED lights would only emit a low intensity red light, but modern technology has made it possible to get LED lights all across the visible, infrared, and even ultraviolet wavelengths.

Not only can you get them in any color, but now, LED lights are very bright as well! In fact, they are used in lanterns, flashlights, spotlights, for stage lighting, and even in car headlights because of their brightness. Of course, there are also LED desk lamp models, as previously discussed.

Due to the low power consumption, minimal maintenance, and very small size of LED lights, they have become very popular for all kinds of things. They are used in signs, on equipment of all types, and are used in almost every way possible where light is needed.

There are large displays made up of LED lights at football games, there are stoplights made from LEDs, and there are even used to make destination displays for ferries, trains, and buses.

It is said that LED lights actually improve safety for drivers when they are used as brake lights and tail lights. They take a lot less time to light up than normal incandescent lights, and can give drivers a lot more warning if the car in front of them is equipped with LED lights when they hit their brakes.

LED lights are quick and easy to change, and have even began appearing in household fixtures as a replacement for the incandescent light bulb.
